Our Wedding: The Reception

When planning the reception, we knew we wanted good music, good food and for our guests to have a lot of fun.Rachel Kenny and Brent Geeser Wedding We also wanted to plan a few surprises for our guests and one of those surprises was a mini performance from Marching Mizzou, the school’s marching band. We had the band show up near the end of the cocktail and played through the bridal party introductions. Our guests were loving it so much they ended up shouting out requests, which the marching band gladly obliged. Rachel Kenny and Brent Geeser WeddingWe wanted our wedding to represent who Brett and I are as couple and with that we paid special attention to the menu, incorporating as many of our favorite foods as possible. The cocktail hour included two signature drinks, a selection of our favorite apps and opted for food stations at the reception in place of a sit down dinner. We probably had more than enough food, but everyone loved having all the options.For dessert again we wanted to include our favorite sweet treats so we had a local doughnut shop make two different types of doughnuts inspired by our favorites from Firecakes here in Chicago, plus a funfetti wedding cake and other desserts like gooey butter cake (a St. Louis specialty) and rice krispie treats._001I knew I wanted to incorporate our parents and grandparents who have set such an amazing example of what a marriage is for us, so we had pictures of their cake cuttings placed throughout the dessert table. I now have these photos framed along with our cake cutting pic in our guest room.As I’ve mentioned before we love trying new BBQ restaurants so our favors were made up of jars of BBQ rub, from the BBQ restaurant Brett worked at growing up in St. Louis. We also decided to order custom koozies at the last minute and I’m so glad we did. I love the way they turned out!

We had an amazing team of caterers that pulled the surprise off perfectly!Bacon 2Of course the reception was over in a blink of an eye and before I knew it we were being whisked away in a horse drawn carriage.photos by Scott Patrick Myers Photography
